Eagles Baseball Team Takes Two from West Liberty

The Ashland University baseball team pounded out a pair of wins over West Liberty on Wednesday (March 30), winning 16-1 and 11-7. The games were played in Marietta, OH. The two wins give the Eagles a 16-5 record.

In the first game, Ashland banged out 17 hits. Sophomore first baseman Ron Oneson was 2-for-3 with three RBI. Senior second baseman Adam Wilson and senior outfielder Allen Ayers both went 2-for-3. Ayers had a double. Junior pitcher-shortstop Jim Barry went 3-for-3 with a double and three RBI.

Senior righty Todd Martinelli upped his record to 2-1 by pitching the first six innings. Martinelli gave up a run on five hits. He struck out four and didn’t walk a batter. Barry pitched a scoreless seventh inning.

Oneson’s hot hitting continued in the nightcap, he went 2-for-3 with a double. Wilson was 2-for-3 with two triples and three RBI. Junior catcher Ray Frisbee was 2-for-2.

Ryan Petrich went the front five innings, allowing two runs on seven hits. Both runs were unearned. Petrich didn’t walk a batter and struck out one. Petrich is 3-0.

Todd Wells pitched the sixth inning and was touched for five runs. Once again, Barry closed out the game with a scoreless seventh inning.
