The Ashland University softball program recently added two players to its roster when Jordan Berger (Rootstown, OH) and Ashlee Glanzman (Toledo, OH/Bowsher) announced that they would attend the university in the fall.

Ashland University is an NCAA Division II institution that competes in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). The Eagles finished the 2005 season with a 27-23 record. The head coach of the Eagles is Sheilah Gulas.

Information on the two new Eagles appears below.

Jordan Berger (Rootstown, OH) – Berger is a four-year letterwinner. In 2004 she was a first team all-state pick and a first team all-conference and all-district selection. The outfielder-middle infielder was the team’s offensive player of the year in 2003. In 2004 she hit .500 and in 2004 she had a .479 batting average. Berger owns school single-season records for hits and total bases. In 2003, she played on the Rootstown team that advanced to the state Final Four. That was the first time in school history Rootstown made that trip.

“Jordan has very good speed,” said Gulas. “The nice thing about her is that she can play a number of positions. We’ll have the opportunity to see where she fits in best. She can make things happen offensively with her speed.”

Berger also played basketball and was the team’s most valuable player in 2005. In 2004 she was the team’s defensive player of the year.

Berger plans to major in exercise science. She is the daughter of Kim and Jim Berger.

Ashlee Glanzman (Toledo, OH/Bowsher) – Glanzman was second team all-city in 2003. An infielder-outfielder, she earned four letters while playing for the Rebels.

Glanzman played for Team Coca-Cola, the 2004 NSA (16) state championship team. She played on an ASA runnerup team and the USSA 16 “A” world champions.

“She’s a good hitter, a real scrappy player,” said Gulas. “We’re excited about her solid hitting. She has good offensive potential.”

Secondary education is Glanzman’s intended major. She is the daughter of Diane and Jerry Glanzman.
