Eagles Picked Seventh in GLIAC Preseason Football Poll

The Ashland University Eagles have been picked seventh in the 2005 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference football preseason poll. The voting was conducted among the league’s 13 head coaches.

Grand Valley State received 11 first-place votes and tallied 143 points. Northwood, with 129 points and one first-place vote, was picked to finish second. Third place went to Saginaw Valley State (127 points, one first place vote). Ashland doesn’t play either Northwood or Saginaw Valley State in 2005.

Michigan Tech (99) was selected to finish fourth and Ferris State (95) is listed fifth. Findlay narrowly edged Ashland for sixth. The Oilers received 87 points and the Eagles were supported with 80 points.

The Eagles are coming off a 5-6 campaign, their first under head coach Lee Owens. AU opens the season with a non-conference game at Saint Joseph’s on Aug. 27.
