Ashland University head football coach
Lee Owens recently rounded out his coaching staff with the
addition of two assistant coaches Randy Homa and
James Butchie Washington.
Homa is a 2000 graduate of The Ohio State
University. He will work with the defensive line. Homa comes to AU
from Bridgton Academy (CT) where he was the defensive coordinator,
special teams coordinator and linebackers coach.
In 2001, Homa was an assistant coach at
Edinboro, working with the linebackers. His background also
includes stints as the linebackers coach at Assumption College in
2000 and as student coach at Ohio State in 1999. With the
Buckeyes, Homa worked with the linebackers.
Homa played for the Buckeyes and earned two
letters as a defensive tackle. He played on two teams that claimed
Big 10 championships. Those units went on to win the Rose Bowl and
Sugar Bowl.
Washington knows the Owens system well
he thrived in it as a record-setting quarterback at the
University of Akron. Now hes reunited with Owens. Washington
will serve as the quarterbacks coach.
The new Ashland assistant coach spent the past
year as the wide receivers coach at Muskingum College. Prior to
that, he taught in the Columbus (OH) Public School system.
Washingtons playing career extended
beyond the college level. After leaving Akron, he spent a year
with the CFLs Hamilton Tiger Cats.
Washington is a 2002 Akron graduate.
Ashland opens the 2005 season on Aug. 27 at
Saint Josephs (IN). A year ago in Ashland, the Eagles downed
the Pumas, 48-7.
