Nick Cordes made a successful debut as
Ashland Universitys head mens and womens cross
country coach on Saturday (Sept. 17), leading both Eagle squads to
victory at the Wooster Invitational. The mens team swept the
top 10 places, defeating the host school, 15-50. The womens
squad topped a three-team field with a score of 20.
On the mens side, freshman Jeremy
Trein won his first collegiate race, finishing the 8K course
in 27:02 and outdistancing the field of 24. Jason Oswalt finished
10 seconds behind in second place. Bryan Ropp crossed the
line in 27:18 to take third. Ryan Wilson and Zak
Wilburn rounded out the Eagle scorers, placing fourth (27:33)
and fifth (27:35), respectively.
In the womens contest, senior Erin
Stauffer ran the 5K course in 19:20 to finish second out of 35
runners. Kristin Ricketts placed third, running a 19:32.
Mara Lee Albright was fourth in 19:53. Jess Fleming
(fifth place, 19:57) and Becky Yoder (seventh place,
20:29) completed AUs top five.
The Eagles will return to action next Saturday
(Sept. 24) at the Otterbein Invitational. |
