The Ashland University men’s golf team, under the direction of second-year head coach Darrin Jones, opened its season at the Ferris State Bulldog Men’s Fall Invitational Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 17-18). Despite a solid individual outing by Adam Hlivko, the Eagles finished last in an 11-team field at +42.

Hlivko shot a 69 in Saturday’s first round, which ranked as the third best individual score in the tournament’s opening round. Despite slipping to an 80 on Sunday, Hlivko finished tied for 16th out of 74 golfers with a +5.

Greg Stevens was AU’s number two golfer, carding a +11 to tie for 47th. Jon Spelman finished in a tie for 24th at +7, but was not included among AU’s five scorers.

The host Bulldogs captured the team title at +5, finishing five shots ahead of Grand Valley State. Findlay’s Eric Atsma was the medalist, shooting -4.
