Eagles Overpower Mansfield in Baseball, 14-3, 10-1

The Ashland University baseball team raised its record to 11-3 Thursday (Mar.9) with a pair of wins over Mansfield in Fort Myers, FL. The Eagles stopped the Pennsylvania Conference entrant, 14-3 and 10-1.

In the lid-lifter, senior righthander Cody Castle limited the Mounties to seven hits in a route-going effort. Castle didn’t walk a batter and struck out five. He was backed by a 17-hit attack that gave him a 13-0 lead after three innings.

Infielder Casey Jirsa was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and two RBI. Infielder Justin Richards was 2-for-4 and John Hosgood and Tyson Rowland both had two hits and two RBI. Shortstop Jim Barry went 2-for-3 with a double and plated two runs.

Barry moved to the mound in the nightcap and shut down Mansfield on six hits. The senior went the distance and walked one and struck out five.

Justin Randall enjoyed a 4-for-4 afternoon against Mansfield pitching. Justin Richards was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI and Hosgood was 3-for-3 with a double and a pair of RBI.

The Eagles will play another Pennsylvania Conference school – Millersville – on Friday (Mar. 10) night.
