The Ashland University baseball team
finished its spring trip with a seven-game winning streak. AU went
14-1 in Fort Myers, FL, and for the year are 15-3.
On Friday (Mar. 10), AU upped its record to
12-3 with an 18-8 triumph over Millersville.
Ashland pounded Marauder pitching for 18 hits.
Justin Randall was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and
three RBI. Justin Richards belted a three-run homer. Chris
Haycox finished 2-for-5 with a triple and two RBI and Tyson
Rowland was 3-for-3.
Freshman Todd Schlenkerman pitched
seven innings and received credit for the victory. He allowed four
runs, two earned, on six hits. The rookie walked four and struck
out eight. Lefty Matt Patton pitched the final two
innings.
Saturday (Mar. 11), the Eagles swept a
doubleheader from IUP, winning both games in extra innings. The
sweep gave Ashland five straight victories over Pennsylvania
Conference teams.
In the first game, the Eagles prevailed, 8-4 in
10 innings. The game was tied, 4-4 in the 10th when AU exploded
for four runs. John Hosgood had a three-run homer in that
outburst. Hosgood finished the game 2-for-5 with two homers and
four RBI. Casey Jirsa was 2-for-4 with a homer and Rowland
was 2-for-5 with a pair of stolen bases.
The second game went eight innings and the
Eagles pushed across a run in the eighth to win, 4-3. First
baseman Ron Oneson, who was 2-for-4, singled in the
winning tally. Jirsa was 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBI.
Sophomore Bryan Thrasher was 2-for-3.
The win in the first game went to junior Josh
Davidson, who went 2 2/3 innings and didnt permit a run.
He was touched for just one hit.
Davidson also pitched in the second game, going
the final 2/3 of an inning to get the save. The win went to relief
pitcher Ryan Douglas, who hurled two scoreless innings.
Richards started and went 5 1/3 innings. The first game starter
was Thom Abbott, who pitched 6 2/3 innings and allowed
four runs on six hits.
The Eagles concluded their trip on Sunday (Mar.
12) with a 4-3 triumph over Regis. The win went to Davidson, who
pitched four scoreless innings in relief of sophomore Jesse
Michel, who went five frames. Richards was 2-for-4 with two
doubles and catcher Chase Beatty was 2-for-4. |
