AU Women’s Golf Ties for 11th, Men’s Team is 15th in Recent Action

With the weather starting to feel a bit more like spring, the Ashland University men’s and women’s golf teams both competed in weekend tournaments. The men’s squad, coached by Darrin Jones, placed 15th of 19 teams at the Northern Kentucky Spring Regional Invitational on Saturday and Sunday (April 1-2). The AU women, under the tutelage of Pam Leonard, tied for 11th of 18 teams at Tusculum’s Agnes McAmis Memorial Women’s Golf Invitational.

The men’s golf tournament was contested at the Perry Park Golf Course in Perry Park, KY. Grand Valley State was the team champion, finishing with a team score of -2. The Eagles’ final score was +27. Saginaw Valley State’s Mike King was the medalist, recording a two-round total of -8. Ashland’s top competitor was Matt Gasser, who tied for 33rd place out of 94 total golfers with a +5. Chris Robertson shared the 43rd position, finishing at +7. Jon Spelman tied for 51st with a score of +8.

The Eagle women competed at Link Hills Country Club in Greeneville, TN. Two rounds were contested on Monday and Tuesday (April 3-4). Central Arkansas captured the team title, tallying a score of +67. Ashland tied with Lenoir-Rhyne for 11th place with a +111. Catawba’s Paige Haverty was the medalist, winning by eight strokes with a +4 final score. AU’s Meghan Marks tied for 37th out of 103 golfers at +25. Maggie Slonkosky ended up 26 shots over par, tying for 44th. Elizabeth Yoder shared the 47th position, carding a +29.

The AU men’s team is preparing for a busy weekend. The Eagles will play at Findlay on Friday and Saturday (April 7-8) before hosting an invitational at the Ashland Country Club on Sunday and Monday (April 9-10).

The women’s golf team is idle until hosting its own invite on April 14-15.
