Ashland University sophomore golfer Chris Robertson enjoyed a breakthrough weekend at Friday and Saturday’s (April 14-15) NCAA Great Lakes Men’s Golf Regional #3 Tournament. Robertson took home medalist honors from the two-round affair at Timbergate Golf Course in Edinburgh, IN. His efforts helped the Eagles finish eighth of 19 teams.

Robertson, the leader after Friday’s first round 67, carded a 68 on Saturday to outdistance Indianapolis’ Justin Hueber by two strokes.

Coach Darrin Jones’ other four competitors were all packed closely together. Joe D’Andrea shot a 149 to tie for 47th place. Matt Gasser shared the 54th spot with a 150. Jon Spelman totaled 151, tying for 60th. Sean Reed ended up in a group of players tied for 63rd at 152.

As a team, AU’s stroke total was 582. The Eagles moved up from 12th place after the first day to place eighth. Aided by Hueber’s efforts, Indianapolis won the team title in its own state with a 575, edging Grand Valley State by one shot.
