Ashland University second baseman Justin Randall has been named the Rawlings/American Baseball Coaches of America North Central Region baseball player of the year. His teammate, junior Casey Jirsa, joins Randall on the all-region first team. Voting was done by coaches throughout the North Central Region.

This is the second major award Randall has won in the last week. A week ago the junior was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference player of the year. Randall’s hitting .429 with a pair of homers and 57 RBI. This is his first season at Ashland.

Jirsa has been named to the all-region team as an outfielder. He’s also played third base and first base this season. Jirsa is hitting .426 with six homers and 46 RBI. He’s also a first team All-GLIAC selection and is a member of the CoSIDA Academic All-District first team. He’s on the Academic All-America national ballot.

Both Randall and Jirsa will move on to the All-America ballot.
