Gill Center
Ashland University offers countless ways for students to interact with the business world. Through the Gill Center for Business and Economic Education, you'll find many opportunities to meet with industry leaders, conduct faculty-assisted research for businesses, and take part in lectures by distinguished business people.

The Visiting Executive Program provides an opportunity to network, in small group settings, with highly successful business executives from around the country. The Business Dialogue Series allows students to learn from the experiences of practitioners from multiple disciplines. Our Executive-in-Residence is always nearby to mentor a budding executive. The Gill Center also supports Ashland's Small Business Counseling Center, where you can gain exposure to the challenges and activities of actual businesses from the surrounding area.

The Cockroft Forum, funded by the William B. Cockroft Forum for Free Enterprise, is a one-day visit to campus by an outstanding business leader. Past Cockroft speakers include: Bob Evans - founder of Bob Evans Farms Inc., Dr. Burton D. Morgan - venture capitalist and philanthropist, James C. Gormann - CEO of Gorman-Rupp Co., Thomas Murdough - president and founder of The Step2 Corp., and Gina Gallo - winemaker of Gallo of Sonoma.

Through our focus on developing managerial competencies, the Richard E. and Sandra J. Dauch College of Business and Economics offers a rare chance to consciously analyze your strengths and limitations in a structured and meaningful way. This Competency Framework enables students to enhance their logical, conceptual, and inductive thinking skills as well as improve their ability to apply concepts and theories. Mastering the core managerial competencies of specialized business knowledge, managerial thinking skills, and communication skills gives students a crucial advantage as they enter the business world.

The Dean's Publication and Conference Participation Grant encourages students to develop their writing and presentation skills. Opportunities exist for students to attend conferences with faculty and to jointly present papers, expenses paid by the College of Business and Economics. Students are also eligible to publish in collaboration with a faculty member or on their own, and receive a scholarship for every publication.

Study Abroad opportunities enable students to expand their horizons. Students may also gain exposure to business practices around the world by participating in international business study tours. This kind of international exposure gives students a valuable experience and adds interest to their résumés.

Summer Internships have become an important part of the Ashland experience. We work with students and employers to design learning goals and track performance during the internship experience. Our students have interned with a wide range of companies such as Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Hauser and Taylor, Sherwin-Williams, Solomon Smith Barney, Wal Mart, KeyCorp, Westfield Companies, Worthington Industries and Walt Disney World. The list of accomplishments by these interns is long. More than once our students have received Intern-of-the-Year Award by Enterprise-Rent-A-Car. Many employers consider Ashland University students to be more competent than their peers from other schools.
