Reaching out in service to others

Ashland University encourages all students to take part in community service and helping others. It’s a great way to enhance your community and grow as a person too. Through the Community Service Center, you’ll find many opportunities to get involved in enriching activities. The university offers numerous events throughout the semester including:
- Service Week
- Empty Bowls
- Adopt-a-Family
- Urban Plunge Thanksgiving Banquet
In addition, the Community Care student organization deploys six student teams that make a big difference in individual lives and in the well being of our community as a whole. These include:
- Environment team
- Hunger team
- Youth and Literacy team
- Adopt-a-Grandparent team
- Crisis team
- Habitat for Humanity
Another group, Partners Reaching Out for Ultimate Development (PROUD), works with at-risk youth to build self-esteem and improve academic performance through tutoring and mentoring.
In certain instances, you can earn Service Learning “plus-one” credit when you apply what you’ve learned in class to real world challenges with the goal of making a difference in people’s lives.
