Adam Sarata, Guitar
Adam Sarata is currently a guitar instructor at the University of Mount Union, Ashland University, and the Community Music School of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. Sarata studied classical and jazz guitar with James Piorkowski, Dean Newton, and Stephen Aron. He received a full scholarship for graduate studies which he completed at the University of Akron in 2001. An active teacher, Sarata has guided his students to winning multiple scholarships and competitions.
Sarata performs jazz and classical guitar at numerous concert halls and festivals. He has performed at Severance Hall, Warner Hall, and Elizabeth Pastor Hall. Sarata was a featured performer at the Wooster Jam Music and Arts Festival, Ingenuity Festival, and the International Rantucci Guitar Competition and Festival. Sarata has adjudicated the James Stroud Guitar Competition, the Burning River Electric Guitar Festival, and the Rantucci Competition.
Sarata has released three classical guitar recordings, Guitar at Akron, Cavata, and Sul Tasto. WCLV of Cleveland endorsed his playing as “lovely, colorful, [a] very nice performance.” Sarata has written articles published in Soundboard Magazine and Basically Bohlen. He lives in Akron, Ohio with his wife and daughter. In his free time he enjoys hiking and astronomy.
