Minors

Minoring in French or Spanish can be very beneficial to you and your career in the future. Knowledge of a foreign language can land you the job and often gets you a higher starting salary or signing bonus. It shows that you are flexible, work well with diversity and in challenging situations and have better communication skills than monolingual applicants. You are not as competitive in English only. The Department of Foreign Languages offers four minors:

  • Minor in French
  • Minor in Spanish
  • Minor in Spanish for PK-8 Majors
  • Minor in Global Studies

After completion of elementary and intermediate level language study the Minor in French or Spanish are only 9 credit hours. You take two 300 level electives and the Grammar and Composition course.

The Minor in Spanish for PK -8 Majors is the Minor in Spanish plus a field experience in our AU in Costa Rica program.

The Global Studies Minor combines language study, intercultural communication, border crossing courses and a study abroad experience of at least 8 week.
