Theatre -Acting Track

Bachelor of Arts in Theatre (B.A.)

Our Acting track provides students with opportunities to develop the skills of the actor through a sequence of courses that explore physical movement, text analysis, scene study, diction, acting theory and auditioning techniques.

Many students attend individual and combined auditions and are hired by professional theatre companies in the summer. Our Theatre majors have auditioned for and been hired by the following theatre companies:

  • The Huron Playhouse
  • The Barn Theatre
  • Summer Stock at Findlay
  • Tecumseh Outdoor Drama
  • Porthouse Theatre
  • Theatre West Virginia
  • Lees-McRae Summer Theatre
  • Trumpet in the Land Outdoor Drama

Audition skills are assessed each year to meet the department student-learning outcome that students will be prepared to audition for professional theatre. Acting track students present their resume and audition monologues each spring as part of the department’s Assessment Auditions and Interviews.

Graduates of the Acting track prepare themselves for careers as professional actors or for further study in graduate school. Recent graduates have been hired by the following theatres and attended the following graduate programs:

  • Florida Repertory Theatre
  • Shadowbox Cabaret
  • Columbus Children's Theatre
  • Playhouse on the Square
  • Missoula Children's Theatre
  • Theatre Four
  • Penn State University
  • University of Georgia
  • University of Florida
  • National Theatre Institute

In addition to courses in a specialized track, all Theatre majors take courses in acting, design, directing, dramatic literature, history and technical theatre.
