Margaret Pomfret Named Vice President of Development at Ashland University

4/24/13 ASHLAND, Ohio – Margaret Pomfret has been promoted to vice president of development and institutional advancement at Ashland University, effective June 1.

“We are very excited to announce the selection of Margaret Pomfret as the new vice president to lead our development efforts,” said Ashland University President Dr. Fred Finks. “She has been an integral part of our development team now for more than 15 years and is recognized at Ashland University as a personable leader who serves with passion and commitment for her alma mater.”

Three Vocal Groups to Present AU Spring Concert

4/24/13 ASHLAND, Ohio - The Ashland University Department of Music presents its final choral concert of the year featuring three vocal groups performing an eclectic selection from renaissance madrigals to contemporary gospel to popular hits on Sunday, April 28, at 4 p.m. in the Jack and Deb Miller Chapel.

The concert is free and open to the public and features the Ashland University Chamber Singers, Women’s Chorus and the student-led a cappella ensemble Surround Sound.

Ashland University Honors Professor with Taylor Teaching Award

4/24/13 ASHLAND, Ohio – Ashland University faculty member Fabio Polanco is the recipient of Ashland University’s 2013 Taylor Excellence in Teaching Award. Ashland University Provost Dr. Frank Pettigrew presented the award at Ashland University’s Academic Honors Convocation held on Sunday (April 21) in the Jack and Deb Miller Chapel.

The award, first presented in 1997, was endowed by former Jeromesville residents the late Edward and Louaine Taylor as a way of supporting high quality teaching at Ashland University.

Eagle Investment Group Takes Trip to New York City

4/23/13 ASHLAND, Ohio - Fifteen members of the Eagle Investment Group (EIG) at Ashland University had the opportunity to spend a week in Manhattan, N.Y., networking with business professionals in the finance industry.

In addition to the networking opportunities, the senior Ashland University finance majors spent time on Wall Street, including a visit to the floor of the New York Stock Exchange as well as visits with corporate sponsors such as AXA Advisors, TIAA/CREF, Abel/Noser and Bloomberg.

4/19/13 ASHLAND, Ohio – Becca Obergefell, a 2008 graduate of Ashland University, has created quite a stir in the social media world with her creation of the hashtag RunForBoston that is getting a great response from all over the world.

Becca ObergefellObergefell graduated from Ashland University in 2008 as Rebecca Fick with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, Journalism and Applied Writing.

River Teeth Essays Featured in ‘Best American Essays 2013’

4/19/13 ASHLAND, Ohio – Two essays that were first published in Ashland University’s River Teeth: A Journal of Nonfiction Narrative will be featured in Best American Essays 2013, the long-running series published by Houghton Mifflin Books and edited by Robert Atwan.

Ashland University Education Students and Faculty Attend Conference

4/18/13 ASHLAND, Ohio – Ashland University students and faculty members from the Schar College of Education attended the “Multiple Perspectives on Access, Inclusion and Disability” Annual Conference held in Columbus on April 17.

Twelve Ashland University students enrolled in EDIS 245 International Perspectives on Disability and members of the student organization the Council for Exceptional Children attended the event.

Ashland University Granted Student Chapter of Public Relations Society of America

4/17/13 ASHLAND, Ohio - Ashland University has received word that it has been granted a student chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), the largest professional public relations organization in the world.

The student charter, known as the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA), serves as an endorsement of the strong curriculum in public relations and strategic communication, according to Dr. Theodore A. Avtgis, professor and chair of the Department of Communication Studies at Ashland University.
