Entrepreneurship Degree at Ashland University Encourages Undergraduates to Risk Failure On Way to Success

When a team of five Ashland University undergraduate students left for Entrepreneurship Immersion Week 2009, one lesson from the school’s new entrepreneurship degree provided a supportive tail wind. The lesson, in a nutshell: “nobody succeeds without sometimes failing.”

John Telich, WJW-TV Fox 8 News Weekend Sports Anchor and a Class of 1975 graduate of Ashland University, will present the address at Ashland University’s winter commencement ceremony. The event will be held Dec. 12 at 10 a.m. in Kates Gymnasium in the Physical Education Center.

Ashland University Schedules Christian Concert with Bands Building 429 and 33 Miles

The popular Christian band Building 429 will perform in concert at Ashland University on Jan. 22 in Hugo Young Theatre. The opening band for the evening will be 33 Miles. The event is sponsored by Ashland University’s The Center for Religious Life and The Call.

Foreign Languages is featuring a bilingual poetry reading and talk by Mexican poet Juan Armando Rojas Joo on February 25th. Starting at 4 PM in the Schar Lecture Room.

The bilingual presentation will appeal to those interested in social issues as well as poetry as this work focuses on issues related to the U.S.-Mexico border.

Good Seats Available for Ashland University’s Annual Holiday Tradition

Good seats are still available for Ashland University’s Madrigal Feaste, a popular annual holiday celebration, which runs from Dec. 2-6 at 6:30 p.m., in Ashland University’s Redwood Hall.

The Madrigal Feaste is a dinner theater with entertainment before, during and after dinner. It is designed to suggest the time of Queen Elizabeth I of England, roughly around 1600. The entertainment is primarily musical, with several theatrical events providing a framework.

Ashland University Plans Festival of Lights

Ashland University will officially begin its observance of the holiday season with the 19th annual Festival of Lights on Nov. 22 in Ashland University’s Jack and Deb Miller Chapel, located at the intersection of King Road and College Avenue.

The 7 p.m. candlelight service, which is free and open to the public, symbolizes Christ coming into the world. The story is communicated in verse and song. It will include seasonal readings and musical selections by the Ashland University Choir and Women’s Chorus, and the Ashland Area Chorus. Doors will open at 6 p.m.

Ashland University to Present Showing of Powerful Film

Ashland University’s Intervention Specialist Program within the Schar College of Education (http://www.ashland.edu/colleges/college-education) will bring the film, “A New Kind of Listening,” to campus on Monday, Nov. 16. There will be two scheduled showings of the film -- 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the Ronk Lecture Hall within the Schar College of Education. Admission is free to students, faculty, staff and the general public.

Ashland University Partners with Ohio Association of Second Harvest Foodbanks to Hold Poverty Simulation

The Center for Community Service at Ashland University is sponsoring a poverty simulation with the Ohio Association of Second Harvest Foodbanks (http://www.oashf.org/) on Nov. 18 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. The simulation will be held in Redwood Hall on the Ashland University (www.ashland.edu) campus.

Scholarships Offered Through Choose Ohio First Program

Students attending Ashland University in the fall of 2010 will be eligible to receive Choose Ohio First scholarships thanks to a collaborative program with three other educational institutions in the region.

The Choose Ohio First program is a scholarship program funded by the state of Ohio to encourage talented Ohio residents to study in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) programs at Ohio colleges and universities. The first scholarships to Ashland University were awarded this fall.
