Frequently Asked Questions About Ashland University’s MBA Program


Can I receive a specialization with my MBA degree at Ashland University?
Yes, presently Ashland University offers specializations in Finance, Human Resource Management, Entrepreneurship, Global Business and Project Management.


Is Ashland University’s MBA program a cohort program where you go through it with a group of students?
No. You may begin the program any semester (fall, spring or summer) and pursue your MBA degree at your own pace by taking one or two courses per semester.


How long does it take to complete the MBA program?
It can take anywhere from two to four years, with the average being three years. Some students take two courses per semester enabling them to complete their degree requirements in two years.


What are the greatest strengths of Ashland University’s MBA program?
Quality instruction that is application oriented. Convenience and flexibility are also mentioned by alumni. You can complete the application online and register online as well if you choose.


Do you require work experience for your students?
Yes, two years of full-time work experience is required as part of the admissions criteria. This requirement is due to the practical application approach faculty take in the classroom.


Do you offer online courses?
Yes, we offer certain courses online. However, there will actually be three in-person class meetings to give you the opportunity to meet your professor and classmates. Usually, the in-class sessions are reserved for presentations—both individual and group—and exams. At this time, the total MBA program cannot be completed on line.


If I receive tuition assistance from my employer, do I have to pay at the time of registration?
No. Payment may be deferred until the end of the semester. Once grades have been received, you have approximately 30 days to pay your balance. If you are on a partial reimbursement plan, you are responsible for payment of your portion of tuition at the time of registration.


What is the total cost of the MBA degree?
Tuition is $533.00 per semester hour for the 2005-2006 academic years, which equals $1,599 per three-credit-hour course. There is a total of 36 semester hours required for the MBA degree which will total approximately $20,000, excluding textbooks and other incidentals.


Can I complete the entire MBA degree at your Columbus Center since your main campus is located 75 miles north of Columbus?
Yes, it is possible to complete the entire MBA degree at our Columbus Center. In fact of all five MBA program centers, Columbus boasts the highest enrollment.


Will I have an academic advisor while enrolled in the MBA program?
Yes, the MBA program’s executive director or associate director will serve as the academic advisor for the student for the duration of the program. However, we encourage the student to develop a mentorship with a faculty member teaching in the program.


Is the MBA program professionally accredited?
Yes, the AU MBA program has been professionally accredited since 1993 by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). It is also accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and approved by the Ohio Board of Regents.


Is the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) required for admission?
No, the GMAT is no longer required for admission to the program. However, a personal competency assessment (PCA) form is to be completed by the applicant’s manager or supervisor.
