FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS – M. Ed. PROGRAM
What are the requirements for regular admission into the M. Ed. Program?
You must be a certified/ licensed teacher with an undergraduate cumulative grade point average of 2.75 or higher on a 4.0 scale. If your cumulative GPA is between 2.5 and 2.74 but your GPA in education courses equals 2.75 or higher, you will most likely qualify for regular admission.
What if my GPA doesn't meet the requirements for regular admission?
You may qualify for provisional admission by taking the GRE or the Miller Analogies Test (MAT).
What if I do not currently hold a teaching license?
Contact the Bachelor's Plus Program at 614-794-0803, ext. 1123. Once you obtain your teaching license, you can be transitioned to the M.Ed. Program.
What are the admissions procedures?
1. Complete Master of Education application.
2. Submit the following documents to the Columbus Center:
Official transcripts
Copy of teaching license
Letter of recommendation
Good Moral Character statement

Is there a fee for applying to the Master of Education Program?
The $25 application fee is non- refundable .
How are classes scheduled?
Ashland University works on semesters. Fall and Spring terms are both fifteen weeks long. Summer term is divided into three sessions: X, Y, and Z. Summer X is five weeks long, while Summer Y and Summer Z run four weeks.
Does Ashland offer evening and weekend classes?
During Fall, Spring, and Summer X terms, classes are offered M-F in the evenings and on Saturdays. During Summer Y and Z, courses are offered mornings, afternoons, evenings, and on Saturdays.
How long will it take me to complete the Master of Education Program?
The average matriculation is 18-24 months, but you have five (5) years for completion.
Can I renew my certificate/ license through Ashland University?
Yes, by taking masters courses or graduate workshops. If you are not interested in pursuing a degree and would prefer workshops, please contact Professional Development Services at 614-794-0803, ext. 1108.
May I add a license or an endorsement through Ashland University?
You can work on a license in Intervention Specialist Mild / Moderate or add an endorsement in Reading, Computer Technology, or Talent Development to your current certification. You may also obtain additional licensure for a different grade level or subject matter.
Can I obtain administrative licensure through Ashland?
You may work on a Principal, Administrative Specialist, or Superintendent license.
If I don't want to get my masters or add a certification, can I still take a class at Ashland?
You have the option of being admitted as a Graduate Non-Degree student and are permitted to take up to twelve (12) hours of coursework.
What are the admissions deadlines?
Fall: July 15 th
Spring: Dec. 1 st
Summer X: April 1 st
Summer Y: May 1 st
Summer Z: June 1 st
What is Ashland's transfer policy?
A maximum of twelve (12) semester hours may be transferred from other institutions, if the course work was taken at the graduate level and completed within five years prior to the time of admission.
How many graduate credit workshop hours may be applied to my degree?
A maximum of six (6) graduate credit workshop hours may be used as electives in Classroom Instruction and Literacy, and three (3) hours for Talent Development.
