Dr. Janet Kearney-Gissendaner
Dr. Janet E. Kearney-Gissendaner, associate professor, joined Ashland University faculty in 2003. Her areas of expertise include development of minority teacher recruitment and retention models for school districts, and preparation of school personnel management in their respective roles. She has received numerous awards, recognitions and citations- most recently the Ashland University Mentor Award, presented on January 2008 for academic mentor recognition by three Ashland U. students. Honorary membership awards were presented to her from the Ohio and national associations of school personnel administrators association for her contributions to the field, and the Bill Hunter award was presented to her for outstanding work in personnel administration in the state Ohio. She is a former president of the Ohio Association of School Personnel Administrator Association where she remains active as a liaison on the board for Ohio minority teacher recruitment consortium (OMRC). She presently co-chairs the Council Attracting Prospective Educators (CAPE) for the state of Ohio, which produces a pipeline of quality teachers for Ohio schools. Her publications, presentations, and workshops focus on providing school districts and organizations with information to build and sustain programs for addressing the issues of shortages focused on minority teachers and other teachers needed in our classrooms. On November 15, 2008, Dr. Kearney signed a contract with Eye on Education to produce a book on a book contract was signed with Eye on Education focusing on growing your own minority teacher recruitment strategies in a new environment. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Vocational Home Economics Education, The Ohio State University, her Master of Science in Vocational Home Economics Education, The Ohio State University, and her Ph.D (Doctor of Philosophy) Educational Administration, Policy & Leadership, Ohio University.
