THEA 203: Theater Aesthetics in London

London, England

May 21- June 10, 2007

Students will examine ways in which theater art and theater artists suggest meaning and invite interpretation of the human experience. Critical standards and theories specific to theater will be discussed and then applied to the study of selected plays and performances. Plays will be read while in Ashland and attended while in London to discuss interpretation and experience of live theater.

Program Cost: $3,529
INCLUDED: airfare, apartments, ground transportation, group dinner in Stratford, tickets to shows and admissions to museums, etc., tips for local guides, 3 credit hours started during Spring Break of the spring semester and completed on location.
NOT INCLUDED: Passport, meals, telephone calls, laundry of personal items, and baggage or other insurance.

Deposits and Payments:

$500 non-refundable deposit due December 1
Balance due February 15

3 Wednesday, May 23 AM- Visit to the Theatre Museum
PM- Visit to the Victoria and Albert Museum to view the costume exhibits
Evening- Theatre Production

PM- Regent's park walk led by Professor Corwin
5 Friday, May 25 Day trip to Stonehenge and Bath
6 Saturday, May 26 AM- Backstage tour of The Globe
PM- Matinee Performance at the Globe
7 Sunday, May 27 AM- Backstage tour of the National Theatre
PM- Visit to the British Museum
8 Monday, May 28 AM- Guided walking tour of Theatrical London
PM- Guest Lecture- An overview of the London Stage
9 Tuesday, May 29 AM- Classroom session
PM- Musical theatre workshop followed by performance
