The challenge facing the University and the College of Education is to raise $10 million to underwrite the construction of the new College of Education building approved by the Ashland University Board of Trustees at its October 2003 meeting. In an effort to take advantage of low bonding rates and to hedge against inflation, board members decided to take a leap of faith, faith that AU alumni and other friends would understand their decision and be willing to respond with gifts and pledges to make the plan work.
This new 52,000-square-foot, two-story building will provide 16 state-of-the-art classrooms, a media center, peer teaching studio, faculty and staff offices and a a120-seat lecture hall. As important, it will provide the technology that will move Ashland University to a new level and closer to becoming recognized as Ohio’s premier organization in the preparation of qualified professional educators.
The construction of the new building was completed in the spring of 2006. It is a marvelous addition to the Ashland University campus and will serve current and future students for generations to come. It will stand as testament to the faith of the Ashland University Board of Trustees and the generosity of Ashland College/University alumni and other friends. It will be something we can all be proud of, not for pride itself, but for what it represents for the future of education and our AU students.
Trustees, faculty and staff along with a number of alumni and other friends have already begun to answer the call with gifts and pledges to the Campaign. While it may be true that large gifts are important to the success of the Campaign, it is also true that broad participation on the part of all alumni and friends can make a tremendous difference. College of Education alumni will be given the opportunity to support this project in the near future. If you are not an education graduate, you are invited to consider supporting the Campaign and the new Education building; after all, the quality of teacher preparation is important to each and every one of us.

These opportunities range from $4 million to name the building; $5 or more million to name the College; and as little as $25,000 to name a conference room or small lounge.
