While the United States is the most prosperous country in the world, from my experience, I have found that relatively few Americans have much of an understanding of the rest of the world. Although many Americans travel to popular foreign vacation destinations, few American have really seen or understand the world.
In an era of globalization, it is imperative that Americans understand the scale and scope of the rest of the world, and the role that our country and others play in it. Without that understanding, our country risks missing the opportunity to continue to grow its prosperity in concert with the growing prosperity of the rest of the world. Americans cannot fully understand what they have in their country without understanding what the rest of the world is like.
