Programs & Activities
Graduate Level Courses for K-12th Teachers - courses meet “High Quality” Professional Development licensure criteria and are offered each Fall, Spring and Summer semester. Content based upon Ohio Academic Content Standards integrates Economics and Personal Finance with other core subjects in fun and interactive ways. Professional Development Workshops with a similar focus are offered throughout the year and at the request of a school district that has identified a need for professional development training.
Stock Market Game - a ten-week simulation in which student teams in grades 4th-12th invest $100,000 in imaginary funds on the stock exchanges. Teams compete regionally and are honored each fall & spring for their achievements. The SMG is an energizing, interactive way to reinforce skills and concepts in Math, Economics, Social Studies, Language Arts, Business Education and Technology.
The Scholarship of Entrepreneurial Engagement-a new, innovative educational engagement program designed to develop the economic and entrepreneurial intellect of high school students.
Economics Challenge - a contest sponsored by the National Council for high school students that challenges their knowledge of macro and microeconomics. Teams compete at the state level with the winning team advancing to a regional competition and possibly a national competition. Visit www.ocee.org for more information.
Samuel H. Elliott Award - awarded by Harvard Business School Club of Northeastern Ohio and EconomicsAmerica to a Northeast Ohio teacher, or team of teachers, who best exemplifies years of economic education excellence in the classroom. See the link for more detailed information.
EPIC (Economic Proficiency Instructional Curriculum)-National Award Winning curriculum that focuses on infusing economic concepts throughout the social studies curriculum in grades K-6th. A series of lessons and extension activities are provided at each level.
PREP (Preparing for Reading and Economics Proficiency)-PREP marries economic education with language arts, using children’s literature as its base. The curriculum ties to the current Benchmarks and Grade-Level Indicators of the Ohio Social Studies and English/Language Arts Academic Content Standards.
PRIME (Practical Resources Integrating Math & Economics) PRIME is a K-2 grade curriculum proven to help teachers and students master Math concepts in unique ways and integrate a very natural link with Economics. Children’s literature selections are incorporated into the lessons.
