Spring Choral Concert II

Ashland University Department of Music presents a spring choral concert featuring the Ashland University Choir, Chamber Singers and Women’s Chorus on Wednesday, April 27, 7:30 p.m. at the Jack and Deb Miller Chapel. The performance is free and open to the public.

Under the direction of acting director Michael Seredick, the Ashland University Choir will begin their program with tenor soloist Derek Jackenheimer on Tchaikovsky’s “The Nightingale” followed by Whitacre’s difficult choral piece with fifteen part harmony “Water Night.” The program continues with the Slovak folk song “Prsi, prsi” and “Song of the Skyloom,” a traditional song of the Tewa Indians, then concludes with Graeme Langager’s arrangement of “Irish Blessing.”

The Ashland University Chamber Singers directed by Dr. Marla Butke will offer two vocal jazz pieces, "Moon River" by Henry Mancini and "Java Jive" by Milton Drake and Ben Oakland, along with a setting of satirical poems about troubled relationships, "Love Lost" by Paul Sjolund.

Stephanie Sikora will direct the Ashland University Women’s Chorus singing "Hello, Girls," an American folk song followed by a French piece, "Dirait-on," and Italian song "The Prayer" which was arranged for the Women’s Chorus by its pianist Holly Allan. Five graduating seniors (Nicole Bacas, Lisa Castalletti, Geren Lewis, Courtney Long and Cara Whitcomb) will be featured on Emerson’s arrangement of "Keep Holding On."
