Chomet's follow-up to The Triplets of Belleville is an exquisitely animated film, based on an unproduced script by the French comic genius Jacques Tati. A struggling magician befriends a poor girl who follows him to Edinburgh. Neither speaks the other's language, The Illusionist shows the ways people understand each other nonverbally.
