Dr. Barbara Schmidt-Rinehart, Professor of Foreign Languages, joined the Ashland University faculty in 1987. She received her Ph.D. from The Ohio State University in Foreign Language Education/Second Language Acquisition and Spanish Linguistics, her Master of Education Degree from Ashland University in Supervision, and her BA from Ohio University in Spanish. She is the founder and coordinator of the Ashland University “Ashland University in Costa Rica” program and has taught summer graduate courses abroad since 1994. She has traveled extensively throughout Latin America and Spain and researches and publishes on the topic of the homestay component of study abroad. Other publications include the professional development of foreign language teachers. Schmidt-Rinehart was the recipient of the Ashland University Taylor Teaching Award as well as the Ohio Foreign Language Association’s Outstanding College Foreign Language Instructor Award.
