Stephanie Sikora

Stephanie Sikora, soprano, has been sharing her musical talents with audiences throughout Ohio and the Midwest for numerous years. As Professor of Music, she is currently in her 19th year as Head of the Voice Area in the Department of Music at Ashland University where she teaches Applied Voice, Diction for Singers, Opera Workshop, and directs the Women’s Chorus.

She has sung over 100 performances with Cleveland Opera on Tour, as well as appearing in Cleveland Opera’s main stage productions of The Merry Widow, Hansel and Gretel, Mikado, and Die Fleidermause. She has been a guest soloist on four occasions with the Cleveland Orchestra at Blossom Festival, including An Evening of Gilbert and Sullivan, under the baton of Robert Page; Bernstein’s Broadway, conducted by Leonard Slatkin, and most recently in July 2000, the world premiere of Song in Sorrow by Augusta Reed Thomas, conducted by Jahja Ling, commemorating the Kent State University 1970 uprising. Additional credits include performances with the Reading Symphony, Canton Symphony, Mendelssohn of Pittsburgh, Ashland Symphony, Akron Lyric Opera Theatre, Firelands Symphony, The Singers’ Club, and fourteen years as a member and frequent soloist with the Robert Page Cleveland Singers. Stan Hywett Hall, The Cleveland Playhouse, Columbus Arts Festival, Lilydale Arts Festival, NY, Lockport Concert Association, NY, and Ashland University Department of Theater have all had Ms. Sikora on their performance rosters’.
In August 2003, Ms. Sikora was invited by Conductor Robert Page to solo in the Mozart Requiem sponsored by the Cleveland Ohio chapter of PAND, (Performers and Artists for Nuclear Disarmament).
Recent engagements have included the soprano soloist in Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy with the Mansfield Symphony in May 2007, a “Spring Forward for Opera” concert in Lewiston NY, and performances in Paris, Nice, and Frejus FRANCE of Bach’s Kaffee Kantate with the Association pour le Development de la Musique Baroque in June 2007.

While on Study Leave, Professor Sikora spent 9 weeks of spring semester 2008 as an intern at the Theater Bielefeld, Germany, focusing on the operatic production of “Griselda” by Alessandro Scarlatti. In addition, she gave two Master Classes at the theater, featuring students from the acclaimed Detmold Music Academy.
Holding degrees from The Ohio State University, The University of Akron, and the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia, Ms. Sikora has recently become sought after as an adjudicator at such prestigious competitions as the Tuesday Musical Scholarship Auditions and the Irma M. Cooper Opera Columbus Vocal Competition. She is an active member of the Ohio Chapter of the National Association Teachers of Singing and the American Choral Directors
Association.
