Dr. Paul R. Milton is currently an Associate Professor and Program Team Leader for the Graduate Programs in Sport Management in the Department of Sport Sciences at Ashland University.
Entering his sixth year on the faculty, Dr. Milton teaches the business and finance of sport, global perspectives in sport, sport management, ethical and social issues in sport, and sport marketing and promotions. Dr. Milton is a native Californian and earned a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of California-Davis. He holds a Master’s in Intramural Administration from Michigan State University, and the Doctor of Philosophy degree in Education from Kent State University.
Dr. Milton’s research interests are varied, but focus mainly on the impact of recreational sports programs on student learning, recruitment, and retention. His latest manuscript, accepted for publication in the International Journal of Sport Management, Recreation, and Tourism (IJSMART), is titled “The Future of Campus Recreation: Time for a Different Administrative Home?” and was co-authored with Dr. Beth Patton, Associate Professor of Sport Sciences, Ashland University.
Dr. Milton was recently appointed to a third three-year term as Editor of the Recreational Sports Journal, the scholarly, peer-reviewed journal of the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association. Dr. Milton serves on several Department, College and University committees, including the faculty senate executive committee.
He received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Division of Enrollment Management & Student Affairs at Kent State University in April 2011. While Director of Recreational Services at Kent State, Dr. Milton spearheaded the Student Recreation & Wellness Center Project, the renovation of the Allerton Sports Complex, and the transition of the Department of Recreational Services to a university auxiliary. Dr. Milton has conducted a number of program reviews, both at institutions at which he has served, and for departments of recreational sports at other colleges and universities.
He and his wife Pat, reside in Munroe Falls, Ohio. They both enjoy sports, especially golf, an activity they have been able to pursue together at the local, state and national amateur level.
