How to Apply for Bachelor Plus/Teacher Licensure Loans
Step by Step for Bachelor's Plus/Teacher Licensure StudentsAU loan applications are processed on a first-come, first-served basis, with priority given to those applications submitted by April 30.
Students who apply for loans late may need to pay for tuition temporarily (i.e., credit card) until the loan is processed. The Student Accounts Office requires that payment for classes accompany registration unless a student has an approved Stafford Loan and all required paperwork processed. A student whose Stafford Loan has not yet received final approval or a student who has a private education loan must submit payment with registration. The student may then request a refund check from the Student Accounts Office after the loan has been applied to his/her account and after the student has attended the first class session.
Students must reapply each spring to obtain a loan for the following academic year.
To apply, please complete the following steps:
- Be accepted for admission to the Bachelor's Plus or teacher licensure programs and intend to enroll at least half-time (i.e., 6 credits) per term.
- Complete the AU Loan Application for Bachelor's Plus/Teacher Licensure Students for the appropriate year. Note: AU will not certify a private education loan unless the student has completed the appropriate AU Loan Application.
Next Steps to Apply for a Private Education Loan:
- Apply to the lender of your choice (see Private Education Loans page). AU will be asked to certify electronically that you are eligible for the loan. The lender will notify you of your approval.
Next Steps to Apply for a Federal Stafford Loan:
- Complete the FAFSA on the Web (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) at www.fafsa.ed.gov and use the AU Title IV code -- 003012 -- to have your Student Aid Report sent electronically to Ashland University. The FAFSA on the Web may be completed and submitted on or after January 1 for the following academic year (complete your tax forms before completing the FAFSA!).
- If you are a first-time Stafford Loan borrower or do not currently have outstanding Stafford Loans, complete Loan Entrance Counseling.
- Complete a Master Promissory Note.
