FIRST STEPS FOR UNDERGRADUATES
Introduction To Undergraduate Financial Aid
Financial aid is awarded on the basis of outstanding scholarship, accomplishments,
talent, and/or financial need. By using a combination of available
assistance from federal, state, and University sources, Ashland University will attempt
to meet your financial need as calculated through completion of the
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The following information
should answer many of your questions. If you have other questions,
please contact the Financial Aid Office at
financialaid@ashland.edu.
How much will my family pay for my education? Don’t just look at the price
tag – financial assistance will reduce the cost for almost all families.
So, you must apply for financial aid to determine how much your family will
pay for your Ashland University education. You can obtain an early indication of the amount
of aid for which you may qualify by completing our online
Financial
Aid Estimator .
Am I eligible for financial aid? Ashland University offers financial
assistance to all students who have been accepted for admission to the University;
will be enrolled at
least half-time (6 credit hours per term) in a degree program; are not on disciplinary
probation; and are meeting the standards required in the
Financial Aid Satisfactory
Academic Progress
Policy.
To receive University funds, you must enroll on a full-time basis during the
fall or spring semesters and pay the
comprehensive rate of tuition. This excludes
students in the Evening and Weekend, Nursing, and LCCC programs from institutional
assistance although they are eligible for federal and state aid. Students attending
less than half-time may qualify for a Pell Grant.
Do I have to reapply for financial aid every year? All financial aid administered
by Ashland University is awarded
annually. If you are awarded financial assistance for one
year, you must reapply and meet established criteria in order to receive financial
assistance in subsequent years.
Does living off campus affect my financial aid? Living off campus may affect
your financial aid. If you currently live on campus and plan to move off, contact
the Financial Aid Office to determine if your award will be affected by your
housing change.
When do I receive my financial aid? Your financial aid will be disbursed to
your account prior to the beginning of the term for which it has been awarded
if all required paperwork has been received. Please note that Federal Pell Grants, Federal Stafford
and Parent Loans, Federal Perkins Loans and private education loans are not credited to your account until ten days before each term begins
and will not be reflected on your billing statement prior to that date.
Am I eligible for financial aid as an Ashland University student enrolled in the Evening/Weekend,
Nursing, or Lorain County Community College programs? Ashland University students enrolled
in these programs pay significantly less than the comprehensive tuition rate
paid by regular, full-time undergraduate students. Therefore, you are not eligible
for institutional grants and scholarships, but may be eligible for federal
and state gift aid.
I will be attending another institution while I am enrolled at
Ashland University? What
do I do about financial aid? If you will attend Ashland University and another institution
simultaneously,
you may be eligible for federal and state aid through a consortium agreement.
Will I be eligible for financial aid while enrolled in a Study Abroad
Program? While enrolled in study abroad or affiliate programs, you are not eligible
for Ashland University grants or scholarships. However, you may be eligible for federal and
state aid, including federal loans. If you are planning to study abroad, contact
the Study Abroad Coordinator in the Financial Aid Office for further information.
