HOW TO COMPLETE THE
FINANCIAL AID PROCESS
Step 1: Review Electronic Award on WebAdvisor
Incoming Students - receive a paper copy of their initial award through the mail with instructions for viewing their award electronically on AU WebAdvisor.
Returning Students - receive an email at their AU email account notifying them when their initial electronic award is available for viewing on WebAdvisor.
All Students - Students receive notices of revisions to their awards by email only. (Incoming students receive an AU email account when they first register for classes.)
Students should review their award and check for missing forms on WebAdvisor. Students with loans must complete additional processes (see Step 2).

1. How do I receive a Federal Stafford Loan?
- Stafford Loans will be processed for all undergraduates in the amount listed on their financial aid award. Students who wish to reduce or refuse the Stafford Loan must notify the Financial Aid Office in writing or by email to financialaid@ashland.edu.
- All new student borrowers* at AU must apply for and complete a Promissory Note with a lender to receive a Stafford Loan. Click on the link below to access FASTChoice. Once you have entered your name and read a page of information regarding loan terms, click continue. You may then review the benefits offered by several lenders and select one. Then click "apply now" on that lender's link to apply for and sign a Stafford Loan promissory note for that lender.
*Returning students who completed a promissory note with Student Loan Xpress for their previous Stafford Loans must select a new lender and complete a new promissory note with that lender to receive a Stafford Loan for 2008-09.
[Note: if you prefer to use a lender other than those listed, please have that lender's loan certification submitted to our office.]

2. How do I receive a Perkins Loan?
- All borrowers, including students who had a Perkins Loan the previous year, must accept the 2008-09 Perkins Loan.
- New Perkins Loan borrowers at AU must also complete loan counseling and a master promissory note; use FAFSA PIN to sign Promissory Note.

3. How do I receive a Schar Loan?
- all borrowers must complete loan counseling and a Promissory Note that will be mailed to them if a Schar loan is listed on their financial aid award

4. How do I receive a Private Education Alternative
Loan?
- You will need to choose a lender and apply to that lender for the loan. You may select any lender you wish. AU has provided a listing through FASTChoice of several lenders who offer private education loans. Click on the link below to access the listing. Once you have entered your name and read a page of information regarding loan terms, click continue. You may then review the benefits offered by several lenders. If you wish to select a lender from this group, click "apply now" on that lender's link. You will be forwarded to the lender's private education loan site to complete the application and promissory note.
[Note: You have the option to select any lender for your private education loan. If you choose a lender not on our listing, please have the certification submitted to AU for completon.]
5. How do my parents apply for a Federal Parent Parent
Loan?
[Parents please note that payments on Federal Parent Loans disbursed July 1, 2008, or after, may be deferred while the student is enrolled at least half-time. Interest will accrue and may be paid or added to the principal when the child is no longer enrolled.]
- print, complete and submit the Parent Loan Application with actual loan amount requested.

1. How do I access my award on WebAdvisor?
- access WebAdvisor at https://webadvisor.ashland.edu
- click on "Log In"
- login with User Name and Password
- Username is the same as your AU e-mail Username
- If accessing WebAdvisor for the first time, your temporary password is the last six digits of your social security number. You will be prompted to provide a new password.
- Contact the IT Department at 419-289-5045 or at helpdesk@ashland.edu if you have problems accessing your WebAdvisor account.
- click on "Students" and go to "Financial Aid Award Letter"
2. Do I have any missing forms?
- go to https://webadvisor.ashland.edu, Click on "Log In" following instructions listed above.
- under Financial Aid click on "My FA Forms"
- students will also receive a letter if forms are outstanding

4. What is the cost of attending AU in 2008-09?
- The charges for attending AU are found at http://www.ashland.edu/services/business/tuition.html
5. What payment plans are available?
- semester payments bills are mailed to student in July for fall semester and December for spring semester
- short-term monthly - 10, 11 or 12 monthly payments through TuitionPay Plan. Sign up at www.TuitionPayEnroll.com or call 1.800.635.0120.
- long-term monthly Federal Parent Loan print, complete and submit the Parent Loan Application (pdf)
6. What other information is important for
me to know about financial aid?
- Financial Aid Award Terms of Agreement by accepting award, you are certifying that you have read and agree to the terms

- Loan Processes - required procedures to ensure your loan is processed and credited to your student account

If my family’s financial situation changes for the worse,
can I receive additional aid?
Review the appropriate
Special Conditions Form (pdf)
to determine if any of the circumstances described apply to your
family. If so, print, complete and submit the form to the Financial
Aid Office so that your financial aid award may be re-evaluated
based on the current financial situation.
8. I haven’t filed the FAFSA
yet. May I still do so?
The priority date to apply for aid each year is March 15. To be considered for need-based aid from federal, state and institutional sources you must file the FASFA. The FAFSA data must be received in our office from the federal processor before the last day of attendance to be considered for aid.
