A CLOSER LK AT DRPOUTS

Topic: Curriculum and Instruction
Instructor: Judith Hassel
Method: Face to Face (WRK)
Sponsor: AU Columbus Center
Location: CPD

Course Description:

Elementary school teachers can easily predict which students will be at risk of dropping out of high school.  Middle school teachers KNOW who will dropout and high school teachers and administrators work diligently to place these at-risk students in credit recovery or alternative education programs.  What do we know about students at-risk of dropping out of school and what can we do to break this cycle?  This workshop will explore state and national evidence based research on who drops out of school, why they dropout and what teachers and administrators can do to prevent this from happening.  This workshop is also beneficial for substitute teachers or teachers returning to the classroom.

Required book The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls to be completed before Session II (students may purchase the book through amazon.com and it is suggested they begin reading the book before the workshop.)  For more information please contact the instructor Judy Hassel at 740-815-7504 or j.hassel@columbus.rr.com.
