This class is designed to serve as the initial basic emergency care training program which directly follows the National Standard Curriculum and concludes with Ohio State Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). Emphasis is on accurate observations, evaluation of emergency situations, effective communications with the medical network, and high skill proficiency. This class also serves as a required building block to the Paramedic classes. This course is a flex course and it may not follow the regular calendar. The scheduled dates and times vary. The 150 hours of instruction will be provided off the main campus of AU, and on site in Lucas at 25 South Union Street, and at the AU College of Nursing and Health Sciences in Mansfield at 1020 S. Trimble Road. This Basic Training is offered at least three times per year.
Students may take the program as an online or classroom course. Students are responsible for having their own computers with internet broadband access, email, and a printer.
Students are responsible for their own blood pressure cuff (approx. $10), stethoscope (approx. $15), national testing fees ($70), classroom shirt ($25), clinic shirt ($25), and books (approx. $170). The required books and materials list is available online at www.centralohemstraining.com.

- Valid Ohio DL or State of Ohio ID
- No felonies or misdemeanors involving moral turpitude
- A valid healthcare provider level CPR card that will not expire for the duration of the program (If you do not have a valid card, you may enroll in the program course held on the first Saturday of the first week of the EMT course for a fee of $45.00.)
Certification as an EMT Basic in Ohio is contingent upon successfullycompleting the course requirements and passing the National Registry Written and Practical Exams.
The course has been approved by Veterans Affairs.
