ASHLAND
Programs

The Gill Center for Business and Economic Education provides a source and clearinghouse from which a flow of economic and business intelligence and know-how can be transmitted to students, teachers and business men and women at all levels of education.

Besides pre-service and in-service teacher training courses, the Gill Center is involved in a number of programs throughout the area. These include:

Economic Education
Since few people are exposed to economics, either in elementary, secondary or college curriculum, a demand for economic education has developed in communities and industry. Working in concert with Economics America, the Gill Center is meeting this demand with courses in practical economics in a 15 county area in North Central/Northeast Ohio. These courses, both credit and non-credit, and taught not only for educators but can also be taught in area plants and geared to the industry of the participants.

The Gill Center offers evening and weekend business classes at Lauren Industries in New Philadelphia, Ohio through the Lauren Educational Advancement Program (L.E.A.P.).

The Business Dialogue Program
The future of American business will depend upon how well young American business students understand and are prepared in economic education for the increasingly competitive world of business enterprise. Toward that end, Ashland University developed one unique dimension - the Business and Student Dialogue Program. Business executives share their vast experience and expertise with the University students through regular roundtable discussions.

The Business Dialogues are held three times per semester. They are an opportunity for students to speak informally with members of the business community. The sessions are held in Hawkins Student Center from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. Three invited business guests give an overview of their work and then the meeting is opened to questions from students.

Reservations are suggested and can be made by leaving a message at 419/289-7742, the Gill Center's 24-hour message number.

Terry Rumker is the coordinator for the programs. He may be reached at 419/289-5191 or by e-mail.
