Message from the Dean
Ashland University is very proud to be the institutional home of an outstanding graduate culture and one of the largest graduate student populations in the region. Our reputation of providing the right balance of theory, research and inquiry, and professional practice has set Ashland’s graduate programs apart. Our programs have made us the clear choice of practitioners from a variety of professions. Our faculty are graduates of a wide range of universities and they also bring with them many years of non-university workplace experience. Our faculty are scholars and teachers with a very strong focus on the students in our programs – each student is an individual. Faculty are committed to preparing students to be competent and confident scholars and professionals. They make every effort to help students gain valuable insights into the influences that shape their fields.
There are four key elements in the Ashland University Mission Statement. These elements serve as focal points for the university graduate community in developing, observing, and measuring mission-based student learning outcomes. The categories of our goals include Intellectual Development and Wisdom, Ethical Behavior and Justice, Preparation for Living and Working as Citizens, and Global Responsibilities.
The Graduate School sets the standard for academic excellence as it relates to all facets of advanced study. It seeks to serve society’s needs in specific technical and professional ways, as well as to serve the need for intellectual expansion. The Graduate School establishes, through the faculty, policies which define good practice in graduate programs, high quality in curriculum, excellence in student selection, and rigor in faculty appointments. In short, The Graduate School is your gateway to advanced study at Ashland University. From the admission process to commencement, The Graduate School serves as the advocate for our students and the guardian for academic quality with a focus on “Accent on the Individual.”
Some of the important operations contained within The Graduate School include: Graduate Admissions; The Graduate Council; The Graduate Cabinet; The Human Subjects Review Board (HSRB); Graduate Writing Consultation; and the Graduate Research Assistants (GRA) Program.
Welcome to The Graduate School!
