Writing your Personal Statement
This is your opportunity to give us a chance to know you better.
Your Personal Statement can answer the following questions:
- Why are you considering Ashland University?
- What do you know about Ashland University?
- What are your favorite subjects or interests at school?
- What are your hobbies and interests outside of school?
- What achievements are you most proud of?
- Why you are choosing the degree program that you have indicated on your application?
- What are your career aspirations?
- If you are undecided about your degree program or career aspirations at this point, that is okay, just let us know.
Basic Writing Tips:
- Give us complete information so that we will not be confused.
- If mailing in the statement, it should be neatly typed. If applying online, your application will not be accepted unless the statement is included.
- Remember that mistakes, especially sloppy mistakes, make it look like you don't take the statement (and, by extension, the application) very seriously.
- Leave yourself time to rewrite and revise. If you are applying online we recommend that you write your statement in a word processing program first, proof read and spell check it, then cut and paste it into our online statement area.
- Do your best with your English grammar. While we dont expect this to be perfect, we would like proper sentences and paragraphs. We understand that your level of English ability will be reflected in your essay.
- If your English ability is low, we will also accept an essay that is in your native language, along with an English translation.
