IUL
IUL 101: INTRODUCTION TO UNIVERSITY LIFE is a required 1-credit hour graded course. This seminar helps freshmen become active, committed members of the learning community. Students will explore and define their academic expectations of college life, reflect on the nature of liberal arts, explore possible degree paths, and become familar with the AU learning community.
Purpose: The course will challenge students to think differently about themselves and accept responsibility for becoming part of the community of learners. Specifically, the course will
- engage students in the learning process, helping them to ask questions about and reflect on why they have come to college, the information they are learning, and what they have said or written;
- encourage the students to examine their own perceptions about the world and their place in it;
- enable the students to investigate majors and related careers and jobs, helping them begin to discover interests and passions that they will want to pursue throughout their lives;
- empower the students to find ways to create a challenging and vigorous educational experience for themselves.
