
Ashland University invites applications, expressions of interest, and nominations for the position of adjunct instructors. The Primary responsibility will be part-time teaching assignments during academic semesters primarily during the evening hours. The management department has a particular need in the following disciplines in both the graduate and undergraduate classes. Teaching positions are available at the following locations: Ashland, Columbus, Massillon/Stark, Medina, and Westlake. Course descriptions are listed below.
Organizational Design, Development and Change Management
This course is designed to explore various organizational design issues from an organization development perspective. The course will address the management of change, and explore other organizational development tools used to redesign or reengineer organizations. It will also examine the relationship between organizational structure and factors such as the external environment, technology, organization life cycles, global competition, organizational culture, and organizational ethics.Operations Management
This course involves the study of concepts relating to the operations function in both manufacturing and service organizations. The operations process is responsible for planning, organizing, and controlling resources in order to efficiently and effectively produces goods and services so as to meet the goals of an organization. Quantitative tools of analysis used to support decision making in the various operations management activities will be surveyed, and case analysis will be employed to relate theory to practice.Organizational Behavior
A conceptual understanding of the complexities of human behavior is essential for the success of any manager. This course seeks to enhance student knowledge concerning the behavior of individuals and groups in an organizational setting through the use of research perspective, and to guide the application of conceptual organizational behavior knowledge to managerial problems. The topics covered in the course include learning, perception, job attitudes, work motivation, leadership, decision making and various group dynamics and processes.Project Management - (PMI Certified)
Today, organizations need to improve their ability to deliver successful projects. Strategically speaking, this depends upon the company’s ability to increase the effectiveness of the project manager’s capacity to deliver multiple successful projects and to follow proven project management practices and methodologies. The capacity of the organization to learn and apply appropriately sized Project Management Methodologies (PMM) will differentiate a company’s ability to compete in today’s “project-oriented” environment.The correlation of running better companies has been show to be directly related as to how they run their projects, thereby setting the stage for organizational change. If done properly, organizations will be better able to align the systematic arrangement of projects, programs and portfolios with their strategic corporate goals.
Human Resource Management
This course is a review of many of the important people issues confronted in organizations. It will provide a knowledge base in basic human resource topics and an in-depth review of the important current issues in the field. Through text readings, case studies, experiential exercises, Internet activities, and research, students will learn to integrate theory and application in the effective management of an organization’s human resources.Strategy & Policy
The capstone course stresses how to implement contemporary tools and techniques successfully in developing strategic initiatives for an organization. The student will learn the importance of the strategic management process and its value in creating competitive advantage. The course will demonstrate how high-performing enterprises often initiate and lead trailblazing strategies in their industry. Also, the capstone course employs the functional areas students learned from previous courses in the MBA program. There is a strong emphasis utilizing business cases which will help the student to develop strategic offensive and defensive initiatives during their case presentation.Business Law & Society
This course is designed to provide insight into the legal environment of business, the interplay between government, business, and society. This course will examine the American legal system, provide an understanding of basic principles of law such as torts, contracts, and product liability, and examine laws and regulation that affect business operations. Lastly, it will examine the ethical consequences to society of corporate compliance. The mission of this course is to provide an understanding of the American legal system, a basic understanding of the legal principles that impact the business community, and to make the student aware of the ethical and social implications of business decisions.Entrepreneurship
This course is to help the student understand the issues that face managers and owners of small businesses. With limited resources the small business manager/owner must be able to sustain superior performance, grow and broaden its mix of goods and services. How the small business owner develops management and leadership styles and how they adjust to the changing organization.
Qualifications
MBA/JD degree or PhD. Evidence of excellence teaching at the college-level or with management-related work experience, and/or teaching online classes.
