Director of Human Resources

The Director, Human Resources serves as the University's Chief Human Resources officer for over 2000 employees (full time, part time, casual, adjunct, student workers) at multiple employment sites. The Director has primary oversight for employee benefit and retirement plans. The Director is responsible for assuring legal compliance with all employment laws and related regulations. Additional responsibilities include HR policy administration, recordkeeping and reporting. The Director supervises one Associate Director and one Benefits Specialist.

Essential Position Duties and Responsibilities
• Establish, maintain and administer the University's personnel policies.
• Oversee the design and administration of all University employee benefit plans.
• Monitor and analyze medical claims and trends to assure adequate funding for the University's self-funded healthcare plan.
• Evaluate proposals and quotes from insurance carriers relative to disability, life, dental and stop loss coverages.
• Assure that the University is compliant with EEO, ADA FLSA, FMLA, ERISA and other related requirements.
• Represent the University and coordinate with outside legal counsel in defense of any employment related claims and law suits.
• Provide counsel and advice regarding effective management practices.
• Serve as the University's contact for securing Hl-B and permanent resident visas.

Special Qualifications: 

Education:
Bachelor's degree in Business or other related field required. A master's degree is desired.

Experience:
Ten to twelve years of broad human resources experience including experience in all the major functional areas of HR. University experience desirable.

Skills:
Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Must be able to establish positive working relationships with employees at all levels. Strong analytical and organizational skills are necessary.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
Normal office environment. Must be able to meet with employees in various campus work areas - offices, maintenance shop, garage, kitchen, print shop, etc.
