Director of Planned Giving

Essential Position Duties and Responsibilities
• Identify and cultivate planned giving prospects including developing ways to find new prospects and following up on inquiries regarding planned giving program.
• Work with prospects to educate them on planned giving; soliciting and closing outright and planned gifts (irrevocable and revocable, including gift annuities, charitable remainder trusts, life insurance, charitable lead trusts, bequests and other estate gifts, and other deferred giving arrangements) focusing on major gifts.
• Implement and market programs and processes that will ensure a high level of gift planning activity which will serve as a source of major gifts.
• Conduct 100 personal visits each year with major planned gift prospects for the purposes of prospect identification, cultivation, stewardship and solicitation.
• Deliver no fewer than 24 proposals for planned gift funding ($100,000+) each year in the prospect's identified area(s) of interest.
• Effectively manage approximately 100-150 prospects through personal visits, correspondence, electronic and telephone communication.
• Work closely with, and serve as a resource for, all Development officers to promote and close agreements with donors toward scholarships, programs, projects, capital and comprehensive campaign objectives.
• Work with donors' financial and estate planning advisors to promote and close planned gifts.
• Prioritize a database of prospective donors for direct contact by the most appropriate staff or trustee member to introduce charitable gift planning.
• Track, maintain, and steward all planned gifts, their investment performance and ultimate projection of final functioning endowment, capital or other designated fund use.
• Maintain and promote the Ashland University Founders Society, honoring them with permanent recognition, developing ongoing relationships, and helping plan annual recognition events.
• Maintain up-to-date expertise in tax and other laws affecting charitable giving.
• Other duties as assigned.

Special Qualifications: 

Education:
• Bachelor's degree required
• Doctor of Law degree preferred

Experience:
• Seven years related work experience, preferably in higher education, in gift planning, legal, financial or other similar settings with a focus on gift planning.
• Demonstrated management and supervisory experience including ability to motivate, lead, and collaborate with others.

Skills:
• Superior knowledge of planned giving fundamentals, techniques, and instruments
• Proven track record of soliciting and securing gifts
• Proficient in Microsoft Office -Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point
• Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
• Strong written and oral communication skills

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
• Ability to travel (car/plane)
• Ability to work evenings and weekends
