
The Executive Director of the Ashbrook Center at Ashland University reports to the Board of the Ashbrook Center. The Director serves as the general administrator of the Center, with overall responsibility for carrying out the policies and directives of the Ashbrook Board.
The Executive Director…
• is responsible for implementing the Center’s strategic plan and working with the Board to regularly update the Center’s strategic plan.
• oversees the coordination of all meetings of the Board and keeps the Board advised of all matters dealing with the programs, finances, and personnel of the Center. The Executive Director is responsible for fostering strong relationships with individual members of the Board as well as recruiting new Board members.
• oversees the hiring, training, and supervision of the personnel needed to carry on the activities and functions of the Center.
• oversees the development and success of all of the Center’s programs. The Executive Director is expected to stay informed about trends and developments in related fields, monitor competitors, identify new opportunities to advance the Center’s missions, and oversee the evaluation of the Center’s programs and their effect.
• ensures that the necessary financial resources are secured to fulfill the Center’s mission. The Executive Director is ultimately responsible for the success of the Center’s development operation, including developing fundraising strategies and taking the lead in cultivating and soliciting Board members and top donors.
• is responsible for promoting the good reputation of the Center and ensuring that the organization is consistently presented in a positive light. The Executive Director is expected to represent the Center in written articles, in speaking appearances, and at professional conferences. The Executive Director is also expected to maintain productive relationships with counterparts at competing and/or partnering organizations.
• manages the finances of the Center, develops and presents an annual budget to the Ashbrook Board for its approval, monitors revenue and expenses, and provides regular financial updates to the Board.
• works in full cooperation with the President of Ashland University and its administration, working together for the benefit of both the University and the Center.
Position Qualifications:
• Solid understanding of and commitment to the principles of the American founding and Constitutional self-government
• Proven leadership abilities with a minimum of at least ten years of management experience that shows increasing responsibility, preferably in a nonprofit setting
• Proven success in fundraising from individuals, corporations, foundations, and other grantors
• Experience working with a volunteer Board
• Strong project management and organizational skills
• Excellent oral and written communication abilities
• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred
This position requires that the candidate work out of our Ashland, Ohio office.
