Vice President for Development and Institutional Advancement

The Vice President for Development and Institutional Advancement is the chief administrative officer responsible for the planning, leadership, and implementation of all university fund-raising initiatives, research and records, grant writing, planned giving, endowment, scholarships and alumni and parent engagement programs. The Vice President of Development and Institutional Advancement serves on the President's Cabinet and various appointed committees; coordinates the efforts of the University's Board of Trustees Development Committee; and assumes all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the President.

At the direction of the President, the Vice President for Development and Institutional Advancement with the assistance of his/her staff, which includes the Associate Vice President for University Campaigns and Research, Director of Planned Giving, Director of Prospect Research & Proposals, Director of Alumni and Parent Engagement, Director of Advancement/Information Services, Annual Giving Officers, Major Gifts Officers and their support staff, is the chief administrative officer responsible for the following:
• In consultation with the President and the Development Committee of the Board of Trustees, establish financial goals and objectives for the University by providing an annual action plan for all areas of development and institutional advancement.
• Direct, maintain and expand the annual giving related to the Ashland Fund, endowment, campaigns, major gifts and planned giving of the University.
• Identify, cultivate and solicit individuals, alumni, parents, faculty, administration, staff, corporations, foundations, churches and organizations from the various constituencies of the University both personally and as team lead initiatives.
• In consultation with the President, coordinate the efforts of the Development Committee of the Board of Trustees in establishing fund-raising strategies, and active participation by board members to assure the ongoing success of the University's development program.
• Plan, coordinate, implement, and provide leadership for all fundraising efforts of the University in line with strategic planning. Work with the President of the Seminary, the Director of the Ashbrook Center, and their Directors of Development in coordinating their fund-raising and public relations programs with those of the University at large.
• Identify and arrange opportunities where the personal presence and/or support of the President, Trustees, Faculty or Administrators will enhance the University's public image and/or fund-raising initiatives.
• Assure that all media and publication materials related to development present a consistent message, image, and quality in keeping with the mission and purpose of the University.
• Plan and administer programs that will identify and cultivate major donor prospects, expand the overall donor pool in each of the University's constituencies, and make personal calls on major prospects to seek financial support for the University.
• Serve on the President's Cabinet and other committees as appointed.
• Serve as a resource and "sound board" for the President on university matters.
• Plan, develop, and manage the annual budget all areas of development and institutional advancement. Prepare and submit budgets to the VP of Business in cooperation with Associate Vice Presidents and Directors.
• Maintain accountability, supervise, encourage and equip all members of the development and institutional advancement areas to become a cohesive team. Provide annual reviews for all team members within clearly established job descriptions.
• Maintain memberships in continuing educational organizations to stay current on all trends in development.
• Assume all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the President.

Special Qualifications: 

• Education: Bachelor's degree required, Master's or Doctorate preferred

• Experience:
o A minimum of 7 years experience in the field of development or institutional advancement with a demonstrated successful record
o A strategist, able to analyze data and develop a successful strategic plan
o Knowledge and experience in planned giving
o Personal involvement and success in soliciting major gifts

• Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:
o Inspirational leader, strong encourager and proven team builder
o Proven ability as a strong administrator
o Ability to represent the University with campus organizations and outside constituencies.
o Excellent interpersonal skills
o Strong oral and written communication skills
o An extrovert
o Willingness to work long hours and travel as necessary
o Maintains confidentiality
