Language Learning Technology
The language lab is located in 201 Patterson Technology Center. Courses in French, German, Spanish
and English as a Second Language at Ashland University are taught
in media equipped classrooms in Patterson, Bixler, and sometimes other classrooms across campus. All language classrooms have an instructor
station with a networked and Internet connected computer, DVD and
VCR and ceiling mounted projector. Some classrooms have additional
equipment such as a document projector or Smartboard. In addition,
Patterson Hall is part of the AU
wireless network.

The language laboratory,
located in Room 201 of the Patterson Instructional Technologies
Center, serves students in the Department
of Foreign Languages and the Ashland
Center for English Studies . Students studying English as
a Second Language, French, and Spanish can come to the
lab to do audio, video, and computer lessons assigned as part
of their coursework. The lab is managed by Foreign Language
instructor Mary Ball, office 213 Bixler Hall, tel 5945, and is
staffed by student assistants. |
 |
The lab has 17 computer/audiotape
stations.
The computers are connected to the campus network, giving students
access to network software such as on-line dictionaries, grammar
tutorials, word processors and the World Wide Web. In addition,
computers in the lab, language faculty offices and language classrooms
are connected to the language lab's server and the CAN8
digital multimedia lab system. CAN8 allows students quick
access to and precise individual control over course materials and
storage of recordings and answers for instructor correction.
Students can also view VHS tapes and DVDs, including those in non-US formats.
