VII. The Librarian Mentor Program and Librarian Mentors

A Message from Bill Weiss, Library Director:

Greetings from the Library.

Let’s begin by reviewing the rationale and some guidelines for the librarian-mentor program.   As you know mentoring is an important aspect of the doctoral program at Ashland University.    Librarians can offer professional assistance in a mentoring environment tailored to your specific research needs. Each of our librarians has agreed to mentor doctoral students through the course of their graduate studies.  One of our goals as mentors is to assist you in conducting your own research by taking an interest in your area of scholarly pursuit.   Librarians will draw on their particular skill sets to guide you to resources and research techniques that you might not have been aware of.    Additionally, mentors can coach you in the efficient use of online resources available on campus and from home or office.   Establishing a relationship with your mentor should increase the efficiency of your research efforts.    Becoming a skilled researcher is valuable component of the doctoral experience.

I encourage you to take advantage of this mentoring opportunity.  Remember that anyone on staff is ready to help when you visit or call the library.   For those of you in the earlier cohorts, even if you have not needed a mentor before, I encourage you to consider this opportunity again.
