Leveled Book Kits

Book kits are a collection of titles selected for use with guided reading. Each kit, housed in a red folder complete with book covers for easy browsing, consists of a single title and includes one hard copy, six soft copies (paperback), and information pertaining to recommended reading levels. Part of the IRC circulating collection, book kit call numbers are a numerical "other call number" beginning with a classification of bookkit and cataloged by accession; the newest title has the highest number. Book kits are located directly outside of the IRC on the back side of the activity and curriculum textbook collection stacks.

Leveling was done by students in Dr. Mary Rycik's children's literature course. Each leveled kit has a label placed on the bottom right corner indicating suggested reading levels; included are grade and stage (emergent, early, early fluent, and fluent), F & P (Fountas and Pinnell), and Directed Reading Assessment (DRA). A handout is provided with leveled kits and describes criteria.

Beginning with the fall 2007 semester, Book Kit's 073 thorugh 091 are being leveled, this information will be added when available and a notice will be posted on the IRC Blog.

These latest additions to the Book Kit collection are books duplicated in various science kits in the materials kits collection; each kit consists of seven paperback copies of individual titles as opposed to one hard back and six paper. As of October 5, 2007, the book kits collection space has expanded from one to two sections.

Collection Location: Book kits are located on the second floor of the library, behind the curriculum textbook and activity book stacks.		Sample Book Kit: Unless otherwise noted, each kit contains six paperback and one hard back copy of the same book.

There are a few book kits that have not yet been leveled (#54, #57, #58, and #68), when information is available it will be added to the chart.
