Ashland University Theatre Presents Children’s Production of the Interactive “Cinderella Confidential”
Ashland University Theatre will present the children’s production “Cinderella Confidential,” directed by senior theatre education major Rachel Galambos, on Saturday, Dec. 5, at 3 p.m., in the Studio Theatre in the Center for the Arts. The performance is free and open to the public, but reservations are required.
“Cinderella Confidential,” by Eric Coble, follows Kingdom rival media personalities Deb Jabber and Sonny Glamour as they compete to discover the owner of one dainty glass slipper left by one lovely, mysterious girl who fled from one silly prince. In their race to find the girl, they interview one confused Fairy Godmother and a couple of mice with a story to tell. Other appearances include cameos from Pinocchio, Jack and his cow, and the Shoemaker with a secret. The production is interactive, so audience participation is encouraged. All ages are welcome.
The play was first produced by the Cleveland Playhouse in 2002 where Coble is a member of the Playwrights Unit. It “freshens up what can be a shopworn tale with smiles and laughs…Perfectly fun!” was the Cleveland Plain Dealer’s praise upon the premiere of “Cinderella Confidential.”
Junior Lauren Yobbagy will portray Cinderella, the Fairy Godmother, Mrs. Mouse, and Elmer the Elf, with Brittany Hartman as Deb Jabber and Wicked Stepsister #1. The roles of the Prince, Pinocchio, Shoemaker, Mr. Mouse and Stepsister #2 will be performed by freshman Aaron Arnold, and freshman Japheal Bondurant will play Sonny Glamour and Jack. Junior Amanda McKinney will stage manage the production. Sophomore Westley Moore will help with backstage crew, and recent graduate D. Justin Bilewicz III is part of the costume construction crew.
