Cleveland Jazz Orchestra to Open Ashland University Spectrum Series
The Spectrum Arts and Lecture Series at Ashland University opens its 2010 fall semester season with a performance by the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra. The Cleveland Jazz Orchestra will perform Sept. 14 at 7:30 p.m. in Hugo Young Theatre inside the Center for the Arts.
Tickets for the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra are $15 for general admission, $10 for Ashland University faculty and staff, and free for Ashland University students with ID (in advance only by Sept. 13 from the Student Life Office). Celebrating more than 25 years and now under the direction of Sean Jones, The Cleveland Jazz Orchestra will bring its rich history of classic and contemporary big band jazz to Ashland University. The ensemble is recognized locally, nationally and internationally through touring, recordings and collaboration with many jazz greats.
The orchestra features two members of the Ashland University faculty – Dr. Thomas Reed, professor of music and chair of the Department of Music, who plays the tenor saxophone, and Dr. Scott Garlock, associate professor of music, who plays the trombone.
The Cleveland Jazz Orchestra is a non-profit, large ensemble dedicated to performing and creating traditional and emerging jazz at the highest professional artistic level. The Jazz Orchestra has a vision to celebrate jazz as a uniquely American art form and a mission to enrich the cultural and intellectual fabric of the communities they serve through jazz.
