Ashland University Biology Assistant Professor Contributes to Award-Winning Book

Dr. Steven Fenster, assistant professor of biology at Ashland University, contributed to a chapter in a book that was selected as the winner of the American Publishers Awards for Professional and Scholarly Excellence (PROSE) in the category of Excellence in Biology and Life Sciences.

The book, which was titled “Current Protocols in Essential Laboratory Techniques,” was edited by Sean R. Gallagher & Emily A. Wiley and the award was received by John Wiley & Sons Inc.

Dr. Steve Fenster“I had heard from one of the publisher's sales reps that our chapter was one of the most downloaded chapters in the book, so this was a nice surprise,” Fenster said, explaining that people can purchase individual chapters from the publisher. “It took several months of writing and editing to complete this project.”

Fenster’s chapter was a collaborative effort with Dr. Dean Fraga at the College of Wooster and Dr. Tea Meulia at the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center. The chapter is titled “Real-Time PCR.”

The PROSE award recognizes the best in professional and scholarly writing by recognizing books, journals and electronic content in more than 35 disciplines. Publications are judged by peer publishers, librarians and medical professions.

Ashland University (www.ashland.edu) is a mid-sized, private university conveniently located a short distance from Akron, Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio.
